On Tuesday, April 20, 2023, legendary Simeon basketball coach Robert Smith was honored at the Chicago City Council Meeting for his incredible impact on students within the Chicago and CPS community.

Coach Smith finished his career at Simeon after the 2023 season, that saw his Wolverines capture their 7th Chicago Public League City Championship and finished runner-up in a thrilling matchup against Metamora in the 2023 IHSA 3A Basketball State Championship. Coach Smith finished his career with over 500 wins in 19+ years at Simeon.
Earlier this year, Chicago Public Schools and Mayor Lori Lightfoot honored Robert Smith during the Chicago Public League Basketball Championship Week at UIC’s Credit Union1 Arena. You can find that video below.
