For First Time In Over 40 Years, Phillips Secures A Trip To The IHSA Boys Basketball State Semi-Finals!

By Joey Gelman and Michael Wojtychiw

The Phillips Wildcats continued their incredible season with a thrilling 73-58 win over then-undefeated Beacher in the IHSA Super-Sectional Monday Night (3/4).

The Wildcats got through a rugged regular season, fighting their way through the Red South/Central, a runner-up finish at DeKalb’s Chuck Dayton Classic, a Final Four finish in the city tournament and regional, sectional and super-sectional titles, the latter two which were program firsts.

It was the Wildcats’ junior class that led it to Champaign. Phoenix Childs and EJ Horton each scored 24 points, while Amari Edwards added 10 points.

The trip downstate is the first for Phillips since 1977 and the first that isn’t due to the automatic state berth the Public League used to be guaranteed until the early 2000s.

The Wildcats will take on Williamsville on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at the State Farm Center in Champaign, IL. Tickets can be purchased via the link here.
