This week’s Game of the Week is involving the Chicago Public League, as the Wolverines of Simeon get ready to host perennial power Bolingbrook on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams are coming off of big wins in their opening games, Bolingbrook taking down Minooka 49-12, while Simeon handled Wheaton Warrenville South 41-23 as a part of the DuPage Valley/CPS tripleheader last Saturday.
Freshman quarterback Jonas Williams was a breakout performer for the Raiders in their opener, throwing for 407 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s got arguably the best pair of receivers in the state to throw to, led by junior I’Marion Stewart, who is rated as a four-star and as one of the top 130 players in the country according to Rivals.com. Kyan Berry-Johnson is the other wide receiver and is rated as a three-star by the same recruiting service.
The Raiders’ defense is led by senior defensive back Damon Walters, who is headed to Northwestern next season.
While Bolingbrook had quite the debut, Simeon put on a show in its matchup with Wheaton Warrenville South as well. The Wolverines, coming off of a season that saw them fall to Kenwood in the city title game, is also loaded on offense however.
Everyone knows about wide receiver Malik Elzy, a Cincinnati commit who is rated as one of the top 300 players in the country and a composite four star on 247Sports. Elzy caught only three passes in Saturday’s win, but two went for touchdowns and those three receptions accounted for 124 of the Wolverines’ 165 passing yards.
Elzy and the passing game weren’t needed as much because senior running back Andre Crews put up a stat line many players would be jealous of. Crews rushed for 309 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns.
Simeon will have to rely heavily on its Western Michigan-bound defensive back Angelo Stockstill to help contain the high-flying aerial attack of Bolingbrook.
