After a loss last week, Lake View looked to change its fortunes and find itself in winning ways once again, but Sullivan was defensively strong and capitalized on the Wildcats’ mistakes to win the game 14-0.

“At the end of the day it was a tough game,” Sullivan head coach Calvin Clark said after the win.

“We fought, we battled, some things can go our way. We got some things to work on at practice, which is a plus.”

Coach Clark also commented post-game on the touchdown in the 4th quarter his team scored that was called back.

“At the end of the day we got this phrase called, “next play,” that we can’t just worry about what the referees say. So at the end of the day if we do what we have to do, everything will go our way. So I’m not worried about the referees, I’m not worried about what got called back, all that other stuff. We just gotta keep on going.”

Sullivan opened the scoring with a touchdown at the 8:59 mark in the first quarter from wide receiver Logan Rivera to make it 6-0.

“I just ran a fly and my coach told me that we got the touchdown,” Rivera said about his touchdown.

After Rivera’s score, nothing much happened in the second quarter. The Wildcats tried to create opportunities but missed opportunities offensively kept the game scoreless.

“Offensively, we just have to get back to the drawing board and execute a lot better than what we have been doing,” said Lake View head coach Kirk Davis on improving the team offensively after the loss.

“I think we haven’t scored that many points for the whole season, so that’s something that we need to work on very hard.”

It wasn’t until the 4th quarter where Sullivan was able to score again and increase its lead at the 8:25 mark when defensive back Abdulwahab Salami scored on a 2- yard interception return to make it 12-0. A 2-point conversion pass from Daevion Greenberg to Payton Pope made the final score 14-0.

“I mean it’s always about getting better.” Clark said.

“We got this phrase that ‘the arrow is always pointing up.’ So at the end of the day right now we are 4-0-0. We’re gonna celebrate. But at the end of the day it’s all about Crane next week. So we just gotta keep it going.”

Sullivan will look to continue its winning ways and get its fifth consecutive win when it returns to host Crane on Friday.

Lake View will look to improve on its mistakes and better its performances offensively when it hosts North Lawndale on Friday.
