Below is a note that Lane Tech sent to its community after its girls volleyball team won a prestigious sportsmanship award, the first CPS school to do so:

Please congratulate our Girls Volleyball players for winning the Dave Perillo ZONI Sportsmanship Award.  At the end of each fall season, one school in Illinois is selected for the award.  This week we presented the award to our team.  A few words that were used to describe the award were positive attitude, respect for officials, and graciousness regardless of match outcome.  We try to teach our student-athletes how to win and how to lose, so it is very humbling to be recognized for these characteristics.  Congratulations to the girls, and Coach Kwong, Coach Brian Telles, and Coach Amy Wallace, and Coach Michelle Loh.
