Flag Football Becomes Official Olympic Sport
Today, on October 16, 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that Flag Football will become an official Olympic sport in 2028, during the Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games. This decision marks an incredible milestone for the growth of flag football across the city, state and country. The Chicago Bears, NFL Flag, NIKE and USA Football launched the first-ever high school girls flag football league in Chicago and Illinois alongside Chicago Public Schools in 2021. Now in 2023, the league has expanded to include teams from across the state, totaling more than 100 teams, as the league looks to become an official IHSA sport in 2024.
