CBEA, CPL combine to honor Jackie Robinson in back-to-back games

The Chicago Baseball and Educational Academy (CBEA), in partnership with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), is proud to honor Jackie Robinson, with back-to-back Chicago Public League (CPL) high school baseball contests held on Monday, April 14, and Tuesday, April 15, at Curtis Granderson Stadium (901 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago) on the campus of the University of Illinois-Chicago.

“CPS and CPL baseball are proud to partner again with CBEA for the second year in a row to provide this amazing opportunity to pay tribute to legendary Hall of Fame baseball great Jackie Robinson,” said Mickey Pruitt, Acting CPS Executive Director of Sports Administration. “Our student-athletes will be able to honor the life and legacy of Mr. Robinson through exciting competition for this two-day showcase of games, while shining a light on the talent and passion of our CPL players, teams, and coaches.”

Additionally, Chicago Baseball and Educational Academy Founder and President, Curtis Granderson thanks Jackie Robinson for the diversity that he brought to the game of baseball. “My locker rooms, when I played and the teammates that I played with came from all over the world because of Jackie. If it wasn’t for Jackie, I wouldn’t have had that diverse group of teammates and friendships that I made along the way”, said Granderson. “That integration is what we achieve at the CBEA as well. At any one tournament or clinic that we host, there will be kids representing twelve to fifteen different Chicago neighborhoods.”

The two days of marquee games scheduled at Granderson Stadium are highlighted below:

  • Jones College Prep vs. Washington High School, 6:30 p.m., Mon., April 14
  • Brooks College Prep  vs. Kenwood Academy, 4:30 p.m., Tues., April 15

About CBEA:

CBEA is dedicated to providing high-quality baseball and softball education and mentoring programs to Chicago youth who may otherwise not have access. Founded by Curtis Granderson in 2016, CBEA has worked with more than 60 Chicago community youth baseball and softball organizations, seeing thousands of Chicago children annually at their facilities on the campus of the University of Illinois, Chicago. Through baseball and fast-pitch softball instruction on a college campus at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), the Chicago Baseball and Educational Academy provides a higher-level view of what can be achieved for youth who live in the neighborhoods of Chicago. Once these kids see that their dreams are now real possibilities, the CBEA educates them how to seize any opportunity for a better future.
