Team outlook/goals:
After a historic season at Kennedy, winning conference and making the State Playoffs for the second time in school history last year, we look to carry that momentum into the 2025 season. After graduating 22 seniors, there are a plethora of holes to fill on both sides of the ball. Fortunately, we started the first JV team at Kennedy in decades. Our JV team completed a successful 3-3 season with Coaches DeAndre Mosley and Mike Postley at the helm. They did a great job preparing our underclassmen to obtain substantial roles on the varsity level for the upcoming year. We are returning to the same Conference this season looking to defend our title. As a team, we are looking to repeat as champs and secure a 10th game by making it back to State Playoffs.

Games to watch:
We have a tougher schedule this season without a doubt and every game is going to be tough, but we have multiple games that we have circled on our Calendar.
We have a little rivalry with Lane Tech and we play them week 3 of this season.
We also play Whitney Young week 4 and Morgan Park week 5. We look forward to the challenge of playing two of the best teams in the city.
We also have a little rivalry with Amundsen and we play them in week 9. We lost a close game to them last year and it is a game our kids felt like we let slip away.
Coach’s season outlook:
We are just looking to build off of last year’s season. We graduated over 20 seniors, but we have a lot of underclassmen and Seniors waiting in the wings to step into those spots. We are a young football team but we also have some Seniors returning that are really good. We want to make a deep run in the state playoffs and continue to carve out our place amongst the top teams in the city and the state.

Coach’s Season Outlook
“Our team has been training hard all summer, both on the field and in the weight room, preparing for the opening game and season ahead. Leveling up to face a higher-conference opponent will be a great test for our players. This should be a great opportunity to prepare ourselves for our conference schedule, occurring 3 weeks into the season. Mather is looking to win its first conference title since 2009. We’ve made the state playoffs the last two seasons, and I don’t see a reason we shouldn’t make it a third straight year. This is my fourth season as head coach, and this senior class was my very first freshman group. They’ve devoted four years to this program and have worked extremely hard to reach this point. We, as coaches, are expecting a lot from this group, and I’m very excited to see them play out their senior season.”

Coach Clark’s season outlook:
Taking over the Payton football program after a successful ten-year run at Sullivan High School is both an honor and an exciting new challenge. At Sullivan, we built a standard of excellence—producing three All-State players, winning three conference championships, and finishing our most recent season undefeated to capture the White North Conference title. That same commitment to discipline, preparation, and team-first football will now be the foundation at Payton.
Joining the Public League Red Conference will not be easy—it’s one of the toughest environments in high school football. But we welcome that test. We will put our best foot forward every single day, with the arrow always pointing up, as we build a program that represents Payton with pride.
We have one standard: Protect the Shield. That means showing up with discipline, playing with heart, respecting the game, and honoring the name on the front of our jerseys. The journey starts now, and I can’t wait to see where this team can go.

Coach’s season outlook
Urban Prep enters the 2025 season with one of its most experienced rosters in recent years, led by a senior class that has endured the growing pains of back-to-back 1-8 and 2-7 campaigns. With size, leadership, and maturity across the board, the Lions believe this is the year to take a major step forward. Defensively, the Lions will be anchored by senior linebacker Caleb Hayden and explosive EDGE rusher Kaleb Harris, while two-way leader Antwon Shelton and veteran OLB Sincere Dawson provide versatility and toughness. On offense, quarterback Ronald Brooks brings versatility & stability under center, complemented by running back Jeremiah Raddle and playmakers in the passing game, such as Jaydon Johnson and rising junior Tristian Summeries. The biggest question mark remains game-day experience for the underclassmen reserves, but the program has built a strong foundation through last season and an intense offseason of development. Head Coach James Washington and his staff expect this senior-led group to set the tone physically and mentally, with the clear goal of pushing Urban Prep into playoff contention.
